WikiLeaks PR strategy collapses

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has switched tactics in the PR battle to protect his reputation.

Following sustained attacks about supposed sexual misdemeanours in Sweden he had cosyed up to The Guardian in a bid to get his side of the story across.

But it would appear he has fallen out with them after critical articles appeared about him written by reporter Nick Davis. He has now dumped the left wing broadsheet in favour of The Times.

But jumping into bed with Rupert Murdoch is likely to antagonise some of his more prominent supporters including broadcaster Michael Moore, no fan of the Murdoch empire.

Although the Assange hasn't been charged with any crime, he is expected to travel to Sweden to answer questions about the allegations. For his part he sees it all as a "smear campaign" to get at him and his organisation, a campaign whose true aim is to see him deported to the USA to face more serious charges.

Assange claims The Guardian has betrayed him by publishing details around the rape and sexual assault allegations made against him in Sweden, based on a leaked police report.

Clearly it is not just Americans that 'don't do' irony.
